The Premature burial is the story of a man who goes to tell various accounts of how being buried is alive is one of the most horrid experiences one could ever have. The man then goes to describe how he had an experience in which he was buried alive. The main character in this story is the narrator, who gives narratives of a man who became buries alive only to to somehow get out or attempt to get out. The theme here is obvious. The man talks of the misery experienced in such a situation, and counteract it with the hope he felt when in the actual situation. He repeatedly states how dark and imprisoning the experience felt as well as how hopeful he felt upon hearing the voice of the man who came by to the grave.
